Sustainability
From the very beginning, since 2001, a fair, socially sustainable and long-term partnership with our small manufacturers, leather and fabric suppliers has been our credo. Since then, we have continued to work with the same production companies and tanneries. We source our fabrics from overproduction by major brands.
With our slow fashion, we want to offer a valued, sustainable alternative: no mass production, short production routes, no social exploitation and therefore less environmental impact. We design out of conviction: locally designed, fairly and environmentally friendly produced clothes, bags and accessories in the spirit of the circular economy.
Our innovation is based on a universal understanding of design, classic craftsmanship and attention to detail. Our design culture is the attitude we take as a label towards our customers, partners, employees and producers. We work in such a way that all of the ideas and input of our employees is taken into consideration and implemented within our work and designs.
Lifetime repair service
Our Lifetime Repair Service for our bags and clothes is the repair service we have been offering since the beginning in the spirit of the circular economy. Bring or send us your kleinbasel bag or your still wearable item of clothing to our flagship store in Basel if you would like a professional and long-lasting repair. We will send you a price quote and your bag or item of clothing will be professionally repaired or altered in the same factory in Ticino where the bag was made or in our local sewing studio in Basel.
We’re very old school: for us it’s repair or change instead of throw away!
We conserve our resources and are active in the circular economy:
- We print only the bare essentials and thus save paper .
- We have reduced our shop windows and shop lighting to a minimum.
- We have digitized ourselves so that our internal communication and that with customers and manufactories is easier.
- We use fabrics from overproduction / overstock, so we upcycle.
- We print our fabrics in exactly the used metragens, so that we have no residues.
- We process even the smallest scraps of fabric and leather for custom-made products or mini accessories so as not to waste raw materials.
- We sell our stock items in our studio store at very favorable conditions depending on the season.
- We don’t throw away clothes or bags.
- Circular economy on a small scale: We hold occasional clothes swap events and encourage our customers to bring their worn kleinbasel clothes to the second-hand shop. This means that future generations can continue to wear and appreciate our designs.

Our bags are 100% Swiss Made, our clothes 100% Swiss Design and produced in nearby Europe under socially fair conditions.
kleinbasel is a member of various networks. We promote the Swiss workplace, because we design our fashion in Basel and still produce and sell our leather bags in Switzerland.
